PDF to grayscale - black and white that prints cheaper
Colour printing costs more, and some documents simply read better in black and white. This tool rebuilds each page at about 150 DPI with the colour removed pixel by pixel, producing a grayscale PDF that is cheaper to print and often smaller to send. Please read the honest note before you run it: pages are rebuilt as pictures, so the text in the result is part of the picture and is no longer selectable or searchable. Keep your original if you need the text.
How to do it
- Add your PDF file.
- Read the note about text becoming part of the picture.
- Click Convert to grayscale and download the black and white PDF.
Common questions
Why is the text not selectable afterwards?
Each page is rebuilt as a picture so the colour can be removed completely. That is the trade-off that makes true grayscale possible in a browser.
Is grayscale good for photos?
Yes - photos and charts convert cleanly, and the file is ideal for black and white printouts.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Conversion runs on your device.
